This is a world first: Huawei has produced the first three smartphones in the world. The device will be on sale from September 20. “Huawei has always been a leader in the foldable phone sector,” said Richard Yu during his presentation. And this new model, whose starting price will be 19,999 yuan (more than 2,500 euros) “is the first in the world to fold into three”.
Before its official release, the company published a short video showing the Mate XT Ultimate Design, the first three-part foldable smartphone. The new Huawei model was presented by the company’s CEO Richard Yu during the group’s online conference from its headquarters in Shenzhen (southern China). “We have made great efforts to solve the problem of mass production and product reliability,” said Richard Yu.
Competition is tough
Huawei Mate XT offers a powerful octagonal photo block with three sensors and an LED flash. The back of the smartphone is covered in vegan leather, the most impressive of which is its folding design. This approach allows the Chinese giant to differentiate itself from its competitors, including Samsung and Apple.
The announcement of the new product comes a day after Apple introduced new sizes of iPhones, the first smartphones equipped with Apple Intelligence, its new artificial intelligence (AI) system, the star technology of Silicon Valley in which the Californian group fell behind .
Huawei has for several years been at the center of a fierce technological competition between China and the United States, which has been accused, without providing evidence, of the company being able to spy for the benefit of the Chinese authorities. Huawei denies these accusations, but since 2019 sanctions from Washington have cut the company off from global supply chains for American technologies and components. Even though the phone, with its red and gold design, is aimed more at a premium customers, more than three million people have already registered to be alerted of its availability.
