Hubert Hurkacz was eliminated in the third round of the ATP Masters 1000 tennis tournament in Miami

by time news

Eighth seed Hubert Hurkacz lost to Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 6-7 (5-7), 6-7 (0-7) in the third round of the ATP 1000 tennis tournament on hard courts in Miami.

In the previous round, the Wroclawian spent 3 hours and 34 minutes on the court, defended five matchballs and won with the Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis 6:7 (10-12), 7:6 (9-7), 7:6 (8-6).

Monday’s match was also very tight, lasting 2 hours and 20 minutes. Hurkacz served well. He took 20 aces, including 16 in the first set, and his opponent only three aces. However, he was unable to use this advantage in tie-breaks.

Ranking 62nd in the ATP rankings, the Frenchman confirmed that he is a demanding opponent. He defeated Hurkacz for the second time, repeating the success from the second round of last year’s Australian Open. The Pole also scored two victories – in the ATP 1000 tournament in Paris and in a lower-level event in Rotterdam.

So Hurkacz ended the start in the third round, just like in his debut in 2019. In 2021, he won his only victory in the ATP 1000 tournament in Florida, and in the previous edition he reached the semi-finals.

On Thursday, Hurkacz was to start competing in doubles, in which he was the best in pair with John Isner a year ago. Now the American was supposed to be his partner, but they withdrew from the tournament just before the first meeting. Jan ZieliƄski and Hugo Nys from Monaco were eliminated in the first round.
