The Algerian oil company, Sonatrach, signed a bilateral agreement with the Turkish company, Ronsans, to establish a joint project specialized in the production of polypropylene.

The Algerian newspaper “An-Nahar” reported that “the joint project will be established in Turkey, and will specialize in removing hydrogen from propane and producing “polypropylene.”

The newspaper pointed out that “Sonatrach Director Rachid Hachichi met with the Director of the Turkish “Ronsans” Erman Illicak, before announcing the agreement at the company’s headquarters in Algeria.”

According to what was announced, “the joint project between the Algerian and Turkish companies includes the establishment of an industrial complex that includes a propane dehydrogenation unit and a polypropylene production unit, in addition to special facilities and warehouses.”

The project is scheduled to be established in the Ceyhan petrochemical industrial zone in the Turkish province of Adana, and Sonatrach will be a 34 percent partner, compared to 66 percent for the Turkish company Ronsans. The Algerian company will also provide the raw material “propane” under a long-term agreement linked to global prices, according to the newspaper, which indicated that the project represents part of Sonatrach’s strategy to expand its activities globally in the field of fuels in general and petrochemicals in particular.
