Demand for lemons in China is soaring. Lemon growers and traders are getting tons of orders. This is due to the high number of covid cases and increased use of lemon as a preventive measure. In the last few months, the price of lemon has risen sharply.

“The lemon market is booming,” says a Chinese farmer named Wen. Wen’s farm is in Anyu, a village in the southwestern region of China. He cultivates lemons on about 130 acres of land. About 70 percent of China’s lemons are grown in Anyu. Wen said that till last week he was getting orders of 5 to 6 tonnes, but now he is getting orders of 20 to 30 tonnes.

A large number of farmers receive orders from major Chinese cities such as Beijing and Shanghai. People have started buying lemons in earnest as doctors advised them to eat foods rich in vitamin C to fight against covid. The availability of medicines for fever and cold has started decreasing in the country. Even in the last three years, there is a big crisis in China due to not preparing a proper plan for the prevention of Covid.

“Lemon prices have doubled in the last one week. said Liu Yanjing, another farmer in Anyu. Yanjing said that now he is working up to 14 hours a day as he receives huge orders from all over the country. According to him, the price of lemon was Rs 4 to Rs 6 per kg earlier, but now it is Rs 12 per kg.

Overall, there is a huge price increase in the fruit market in China. The prices of Saberjelly and oranges have also gone up sharply. Online trading of fruits is also taking place on a large scale. Peaches are also in great demand in the country. This sweet and cooling fruit is considered to be very good for the sick. According to reports, there has been an increase of up to 900 percent in the order of peaches on the Alibaba-controlled e-commerce site Freshipo.

Last month, there was a big fall in the fruit and vegetable market due to the increase in Covid cases in China. The farmers were not able to deliver the goods anywhere due to the crisis of transport and other things. But now that situation has completely changed.
