The Government of Huixquilucan will join the “National Drill 2024”which will take place this Thursday, September 19, with the purpose of strengthening the culture of civil protection, strengthening coordination between institutions to respond to an emergency and/or natural disaster, as well as improving the capacity for preparation and response, with the purpose of safeguarding the physical and property integrity of the population.
The municipal president, Romina Contreras Carrascoexplained that this Thursday, at 11:00 a.m., in the three zones that make up the demarcation, the 49 alarms connected to the Mexican Seismic Alert System (SASMEX) will be activated, of which 41 are mass alert devices and eight are located in public buildings.
“As every year, we will be part of this drill, which is of utmost importance to strengthen the culture of Civil Protection and, both emergency services and citizens, be prepared to act, if necessary. Therefore, I invite those who live, work or study in Huixquilucan to join this exercise to keep us safe in the event of an emergency,” he said.
Romina Contreras called to follow the measures of the competent authorities during the “National Simulation 2024”, such as identifying the safety zonesemergency exits, as well as following the instructions of the responsible brigade members.
For its part, the Municipal Civil Protection Coordination reported that the municipality of Huixquilucan has real-time monitoring connected to the SASMEXwhich generates an alert in the event of an earthquake with a magnitude equal to or greater than six degrees on the Richter scale, with a time of 15 to 120 seconds to take the corresponding precautions, such as evacuating the building where they are in the shortest time possible and in order to go to the meeting points.
For this reason, the Government of Huixquilucan joins the National Drill 2024 to generate a greater and better reaction from both rescue units and the general public, to possible events that put people’s lives and safety at risk, promoting prevention actions to improve the conditions of the municipality.
The 2024 National Simulation will be carried out under the central hypothesis of a 7.5 magnitude earthquake with epicenter in Acapulco, Guerrero. Also, for the first time, in Mexico City and the surrounding area, alerts will be activated via cell phone, so citizens are asked to remain calm and follow the instructions of the corresponding authorities.
