On March 28, the Khojaly district prosecutor’s office received information about the discovery of buried fragments of bones and remains presumably belonging to a person, Day.Az reported on Saturday with reference to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan.
Reportedly, these fragments were discovered during excavations carried out as part of extensive restoration and restoration work near the reservoir located in the Galaderesi area of the city of Khojaly liberated from occupation.
“In connection with the information received, employees of the Prosecutor General’s Office were sent to the scene and, with the participation of employees of the Association of Forensic Medicine and Pathological Anatomy of the Ministry of Health, the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, the State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Citizens, a the scene of the incident was inspected, the discovered bone fragments were removed for the purpose of examination and laboratory research, and other necessary procedural actions were carried out,” the department said.
According to information from the Prosecutor General’s Office, so far, as a result of the procedural actions carried out, it has been established that the discovered human remains belong to at least 3 people.
“Currently, a full inspection of the scene of the incident is being carried out. An investigation into the fact is underway in the Department of Forensic Science and Information Technology of the Prosecutor General’s Office. The public will be informed after the completion of the search work and receipt of relevant expert opinions,” the statement says.
