The Human Rights Days in Helsingborg: A National Gathering to Discuss Human Rights

The Human Rights Days are taking place at Helsingborg’s arena from Thursday to Saturday, with the city of Helsingborg as the local host of the event. The city received the torch from last year’s host city of Örebro and is partnering with Region Skåne and the County Administrative Board Skåne to organize the event.

The gathering serves as an opportunity for representatives from authorities, universities, and civil society organizations to exchange experiences, discuss challenges, and deepen their knowledge of human rights. With a long list of organizers including Föreningen Ordfront, Amnesty, and the Ibn Rushd study association, the event attracts visitors from all over the country.

Emma Johansson, a community strategist at the City of Helsingborg, expressed her excitement about the event, stating, “It is exciting to learn how other municipalities work in practical terms and to find inspiration for new ways of working and methods to strengthen our work with human rights.”

The theme of this year’s Human Rights Days is the right to education and work. This focus aligns with the areas mapped by the independent authority, the Institute for Human Rights. The director, Fredrik Malmberg, highlighted the challenges faced by children and students with disabilities in accessing the support they need to receive a proper education.

One of the visitors at this year’s event is special education teacher Annika Åkerström, who traveled from Jönköping with a busload of high school students to attend. Åkerström is particularly interested in strategies for inclusion in school and functional rights and looks forward to the diverse program offerings.

The exchange of experiences and the discussions taking place at the Human Rights Days serve as a platform for attendees to find inspiration and new methods to promote and strengthen human rights in their respective communities. With a wide range of topics being covered, the event aims to provide valuable insights for all those passionate about human rights.
