Human Rights meeting at the Armenian embassy

In the framework of the 30th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia, its embassy in Argentina held a meeting with human rights organizations in which they denounced the serious violations of international humanitarian law by Azerbaijan in the last Artsakh war ( Nagorno-Karabakh), which ran from September 27 to November 9, 2020. In addition, they noted that there are still unresolved issues such as prisoners of war still in captivity in Azerbaijan, as well as enforced disappearances.

They also referred to the cultural genocide of Azerbaijan in the occupied territories and recalled the legal measures that Armenia initiated in international justice forums, as well as the resolutions and declarations adopted by states and international organizations. Nagorno Karabaj, is a republic not recognized internationally and inhabited mostly by Armenians. International organizations such as Human Rights Watch and the Red Cross published reports indicating that in Azerbaijani prisons there are prisoners of war under torture.

Representatives of the main Argentine human rights organizations participated in the meeting, such as the Association of Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, Association of Mothers of Plaza de Mayo-Línea Fundadora, the Free Chair of Holocaust, genocides and the fight against discrimination, the Center of Legal and Social Studies (CELS), ESMA Memory Site Museum, Armenian Genocide Museum, SERPAJ (Peace and Justice Service). As well as the former Minister of Justice and former president of the federal chamber that condemned the Juntas of the dictatorship, León Carlos Arslanian, Ambassador Hovhannés Virabyan, and the lawyer and human rights activist Irene Massimino.
