More than a thousand US troops are currently building a multi-level platform off the coast of the Gaza Strip. The pier will be used for humanitarian aid deliveries, which could begin as early as early next month.
This was reported by The New York Times.
The pier’s capacity at first will be 90 trucks per day, which will transport humanitarian aid. Later this number will be increased to 150 trucks per day. This process will require a collaborative effort on the part of suppliers and those receiving this assistance ashore to ensure efficient and timely delivery and distribution of cargo.
The supplies will include nutrition bars from the UAE, anti-malnutrition products from Kenya and hygiene kits from various European countries. The supplies will include nutrition bars from the UAE, anti-malnutrition products from Kenya and hygiene kits from various European countries.
The distance between Larnaca and Gaza is more than 400 kilometers. Modern cargo ships can cover this distance in about 15 hours. However, given the possible congestion and adverse weather conditions, the move may take up to a day.
The ships do not plan to land on the shore itself. Instead, a floating platform is created approximately three kilometers from the shore where unloading will take place. This will allow for a more efficient organization of the delivery process, as well as ensure safety and convenience when unloading humanitarian aid.
It is known that the UN World Food Program will take responsibility for delivering aid to the enclave. Humanitarian organizations involved in this process are seeking to keep contact with the Israeli army to a minimum. However, the safe distribution of humanitarian aid remains a pressing issue that needs to be addressed.
Trucks from the security zone around the pier will transport humanitarian aid to UN warehouses, of which there are more than twenty in the Gaza Strip. From there, the aid will be distributed to various shelters, medical facilities and local warehouses, providing people with the food and essentials they need.
Earlier, Kursor wrote that according to experts, despite the intentions of using the pier to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, they express fears that this project could create a “smoke screen” for the planned Israeli operation in Rafah.
