In contexts of armed violence, it is essential to take into account its potential impacts on the mental health and psychosocial well-being of the people affected, including professionals in essential public services. Factors such as violence, fear, and uncertainty can exacerbate existing psychological distress and mental disorders or prompt the emergence of new ones (eg, emotional exhaustion, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and bipolar disorder).
In addition, the population affected and exposed to environments of armed violence can have psychosocial consequences, such as the destruction of social relationships, the loss or separation of family members, the deterioration of basic living conditions, and the restriction of access to essential services.
