The Department of Homeland Security of the United States (DHS) announced that the humanitarian parole immigration program would begin, but this time with strict measures created to avoid possible fraud.

According to the statement, from this moment on, those who commit parole fraud and those who try to exploit others for their own benefit will also be held accountable through the initiative.

The Department of Homeland Security has pledged to “hold accountable those who commit fraud or seek to exploit others for their own benefit,” and “any person who commits fraud or other abuse will be referred to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.”

In the meantime, to avoid future fraud, the entity will implement new investigation protocols that are added to the existing verification protocols related to potential sponsors and beneficiaries.

For example, it will partner with the National Security and Fraud Detection Directorate of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the National Center for Identification of Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

They plan to conduct greater scrutiny of sponsors’ financial and criminal records and further investigations to identify fraudulent profiles. In addition, they will use review methods to detect serial filing trends.

On the other hand, “DHS will now require fingerprints from US-based sponsors,” the statement indicates.

The authorities suggest that migrants who want to travel to the United States should only use safe channels, such as humanitarian parole, and the visa alternatives that exist in their countries of origin.

The humanitarian parole has allowed more than 100,000 Cubans to legally travel to the United States since the policy began in January 2023. In addition, it is estimated that at least another 300,000 Cubans will remain in Cuba awaiting a positive response.

In addition to Cubans, Haitian, Venezuelan and Nicaraguan citizens can benefit from humanitarian parole, but the program’s flight permits were suspended for almost a month after fraud was discovered.
