After the mobilization that brought together 485,000 people in all the cities of the country, Senator Humberto de la Calle has called on President Gustavo Petro to consider making changes to his ministerial cabinet. This request arises in response to the evident discomfort expressed by citizens during the massive demonstration, which highlighted deep problems in government management.

Through his official account on social networks, the senator expressed his surprise at the magnitude of the march and stressed the need for the Government to rectify its course. According to De la Calle, the president’s advisors made a serious mistake by underestimating the nature of the protest, anticipating that it would be exclusively called by the opposition party, Centro Democrático. He considers this ruling as an undue concession to said party.

«What should the government do? Open a genuine space to reach agreements. Change your bellicose disposition. And modify his cabinet because the same quarrelsome voices do not have space to seek convergence,” said the senator.

De la Calle warned of the consequences of persisting in an approach of government isolation, arguing that if the government does not address the demands expressed at the march and does not make changes, it will face a strong reproach from the left in the 2026 elections. “His maximalism will end in a languid missed opportunity for change,” the senator concluded.

This call from Humberto de la Calle represents a prominent voice within the Colombian political scene and suggests an urgent need for reflection and action by the Government in the face of the demands expressed by citizens in the recent march.
