Funeral Held for Southport Victim Alice da Silva Aguiar
Hundreds of mourners gathered in Southport, northwest England, on Thursday for the funeral of nine-year-old Alice da Silva Aguiar, who was tragically killed in a mass stabbing at a dance class on July 29th. The service was held at a Catholic church in the seaside town, nearly two weeks after the shocking incident sparked nationwide unrest.
Attendees wore white, a tradition in Portugal, where Alice’s parents are from. The procession was greeted with cheers from locals along the main street, and the service itself included short speeches, readings, prayers, and hymns.
The attack during the Taylor Swift-themed dance class also claimed the lives of two other young girls and injured ten others. The motive for the attack remains unknown, but police have ruled out terrorism.
Axel Rudakubana, a British-born man, has been charged with murder and attempted murder in connection with the attack.
