Hundreds of pounds of cocaine-like product found on beach

Several hundred kilos of a product resembling cocaine were found Sunday morning on a beach in Réville, in the English Channel, about thirty kilometers from Cherbourg, we learned on Sunday.

In all, “about forty packets” were discovered on Sunday morning “on the beach of Reville, the content of which looks like cocaine”, Pierre-Yves Marot, public prosecutor of Cherbourg, told AFP, confirming information from West France. “Weighing and analyzes” are “in progress to confirm it”, added the prosecutor.

Already precedents on French beaches

According to the regional daily, “the national gendarmerie seized nearly a ton of cocaine” on a beach in Réville, a town located about thirty kilometers east of Cherbourg, and the seizure would amount to “about sixty million euros”.

Cocaine has already been found on the French coast. Thus, at the end of 2019, bales containing a total of 1,600 kg of cocaine washed up on the beaches of an area ranging from Saint-Jean-de-Luz (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) to Camaret (Finistère). More recently, at the end of May 2022, breads of cocaine, for a total of around 21 kg, were found on a beach in Berck (Pas-de-Calais).
