Over 60 sports federations and clubs presented their activities during the Sports Village and the Night of Sports #BeActiveNight. The events, which are part of the #BeActive European Sports Week, sparked the interest of hundreds of Sofia residents and guests of the city.

The start of the Night of Sports was given by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Georgi Glushkov. “It is joyful when I see so many children and young people playing sports. I thank the sports federations and clubs that joined the campaign and promote an active lifestyle. I also congratulate the parents who encourage their children to play sports,” said Minister Glushkov.

The event was also attended by the ambassadors of the initiative – successful athletes, champions and medalists from the Olympic Games, world and European championships, among them boxers Stoika Krasteva, Stanimira Petrova and Svetlana Kamenova, rhythmic gymnasts Boryana Kalein, Reneta Kamberova and Stiliyana Nikolova, saber player Joana Ilieva, gymnast Valentina Georgieva, badminton player Gabriela Stoeva, wrestler Evelina Nikolova and soccer player Blagoi Georgiev.

“These great athletes of ours are proof that when you have a goal and work hard every day, things work out. They are a great role model for children,” said Minister Glushkov addressing the ambassadors of the initiative.

The sports village provided an opportunity for all visitors to learn about many sports and receive informational materials from representatives of the federations. The initiative continued with the Sports Night #BeActiveNight and sports demonstrations on stage, and the performers Dara Ekimova and Dia took care of the good mood.

The European Week of Sports continues with the #BeActiveTour in Kazanlak, Nova Zagora, Haskovo, Kardzhali and Nedelino.

#BeActive is an initiative of the European Commission to promote sport and physical activity for EU citizens. The national coordinator for Bulgaria is the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the implementation of the project is financed by the “Erasmus +” program of the European Union.
