WorldSkills

The Hungarian team showed impressive performances at WorldSkills in Lyon.

According to the Minister of Culture Balázs Hankówho spoke at the competition’s closing ceremony in Budapest, Hungary is considered strong in vocational training. The team won the silver medal at the European Championships last year and now they have achieved 10th place at the “WorldSkills”. Awarded 1x gold, 2x bronze and 12 awards for outstanding performance in various professions. The Minister emphasized the focus on practical training and that there is a close link between universities and vocational training centres.

Success in modern careers

Hungarian participants won the gold medal in the web development segment and bronze in IT system operation and software development. This proves that Hungary is only an “extended work bench”. The country offers excellent training and future prospects for young talents, said Hankó. The preservation of traditional crafts is also promoted by combining experimental craftsmanship with a digital approach.

Potential on the international stage

László Parragh, President of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MKIK), pointed out that the EU is losing competitiveness, which is reflected in the results of WorldSkills. Far Eastern countries won almost everything, China alone won half of the gold medals and Japan and South Korea also did very well. A total of nearly 1,400 young professionals from around 70 countries took part. The 25 Hungarian participants competed in 21 professions in Lyon and were very successful. Taking 10th place as a team, they showed Hungary’s potential on the international stage.
