Hungary at odds with Sweden in EU dispute

Sweden is supporting the European Commission in their case against Hungary’s legislation that prohibits the “displaying of homosexuality for minors in advertising and media”. The European Commission believes that Hungary is violating multiple EU rules including those regarding the internal market and the protection of individual’s fundamental rights. Despite previous criticism, the Commission has decided to take Hungary before the EU’s Court of Justice. Denmark, Belgium, and the Netherlands have also supported the intervention against Hungary in the past.

Sweden supports the European Commission in a case in the European Court of Justice against Hungary’s legislation that prohibits “displaying homosexuality for minors in advertising and media”.

According to the Commission, Hungary violates several of the EU’s rules, including rules for the internal market and the protection of the fundamental rights of individuals. Last summer, the decision was made that the Commission would take Hungary before the EU’s Court of Justice as the criticism has not led to anything.

In the past, among others, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands have stood behind the intervention against Hungary.
