Hungary plans with Russian gas – via TurkStream instead of…

by time news

Overall, Gazprom is to deliver more gas to Hungary, but no longer via the northern supply route but via Turkey.

Hungary relies more on Russia for gas supplies. However, the raw material is to flow more via the Turkish pipeline TurkStream in the future. The part of the Russian gas supplies after Hungary, which flows via the northern supply route, i.e. via Austria, is to be diverted via the southern supply route TurkStream, Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó writes on Facebook, according to the MTI news agency. Overall, more gas will come into the country.

“Even larger amounts of gas are being poured into the city every day Hungary arrive, so it is certain that no restrictions on gas consumption will be necessary. Every household, every company will have enough gas,” Szijjártó promises his compatriots.

Gazprom confirms its commitment to operate Turkstream in the long term and also to supply to Hungary guaranteed in the long term. But since “the northern route” via Nord Stream 1 “doesn’t work” for supplying Russian gas to Europe, Szijjártó said, Gazprom will “focus” on gas supplies via the southern route. Gazprom stopped gas supplies via Nord Stream citing technical problems, after which explosions of unknown origin rendered the pipeline unusable for the time being. Szijjártó pointed out in his post that “the important elements of the TurkStream pipeline are manufactured by Russia and are not affected by the sanctions”. However, gas deliveries are not currently affected by the sanctions. According to Szijjártó, Gazprom boss Miller has also promised to work to ensure that gas supplies and related activities remain exempt from the sanctions.
