DMK Members Stage Hunger Strike in Tirupur Demanding ‘NEET’ Exam Cancellation

Tirupur – Members of the DMK party in Tirupur launched a hunger strike yesterday morning near the Tirupur Railway Station, demanding the cancellation of the ‘NEET’ examination and criticizing both the Central Government and the Tamil Nadu Governor.

The hunger strike was organized by the Tirupur Integrated District DMK, with Information Minister Saminathan participating and inaugurating the protest. Several prominent figures including South MLA Selvaraj, 4th Zone President Padmanabhan, Municipal Corporation Mayor Dinesh Kumar, South Municipal Secretary Nagarajan, and District Youth Organizers Thangaraj and Jayakumar also took part. Prior to the protest, they paid tribute to student Anita, who tragically lost her life during the NEET examination.

Minister Saminathan, expressing his support for the hunger strike, argued, “With 28 people committing suicide in Tamil Nadu due to the NEET examination, it is imperative that the central government withdraws the ‘NEET’ exam.”

Additionally, Minister Saminathan confidently stated, “The DMK alliance will secure victory in all 40 constituencies in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. When the ‘India’ coalition government is formed at the centre, the ‘NEET’ exam will cease to exist.”

The ‘NEET’ (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) examination has been a subject of controversy and debate in recent years. While it serves as a common entrance test for medical colleges across the country, critics argue that it places an unnecessary burden on students and disadvantages those from non-English speaking backgrounds.

The hunger strike staged by the DMK members in Tirupur highlights the growing opposition to the ‘NEET’ examination in Tamil Nadu, with many arguing for its cancellation to alleviate the pressure on students and prevent further tragic incidents. As the protests continue, it remains to be seen whether the central government will take any measures to address these concerns.
