Manila: At least 144 people have been killed in Typhoon Rai in the Philippines since Sunday. At least 72 people have been killed in the central Philippine province of Bohol. This is where most of the damage is done. Local sources said the search and rescue operation was continuing and the death toll could rise further.
Communication is in disarray. Authorities said it would take at least three weeks to restore power to the area. At the same time, food and water are being delivered to those stranded in various places. The storm affected about seven million people in nine provinces.
