Daniela Carneiro next to Lula
The Minister of Tourism, Daniela Carneiro, will deliver her resignation letter this Thursday (6), according to the husband of the head of the tourist portfolio, Waguinho (Republicanos-RJ), mayor of Belford Roxo (RJ). Daniela will meet with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to make her departure official.
The meeting between the PT and Carneiro is scheduled to take place from 3 pm onwards, at the Planalto Palace. The minister will deliver the letter making her position available and thanking the partnership and the space given by the government so that she could work in Tourism.
She will also comment in the text that will be delivered to Lula about the pressure from União Brasil for his departure from the ministry, being replaced by federal deputy Celso Sabino.
The decision for the letter to be delivered tomorrow was articulated in a meeting at the Institutional Relations Secretariat, in Planalto, with Minister Alexandre Padilha (PT-SP), Daniela, Waguinho and Secretary André Ceciliano (PT-RJ).
The mayor of Belford Roxo said, in a note, that “he and the Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, spoke and sealed peace and the end of the lamentations, at least for the time being”.
“According to Waguinho, the conversation was very good and with commitments assumed of many benefits for the municipalities of the state of Rio de Janeiro, especially for Belford Roxo”, he added.
Daniela Carneiro and pressure from União Brasil
The minister was invited to join the government as a “personal quota” of the President of the Republic and not by indication of União Brasil, since Daniela and her husband Waguinho supported the PT in the second round of the 2022 elections.
However, with the aim of having interests served by the Planalto Palace, the party claimed the ministry.
Daniela asked to disaffiliate from the acronym in April, but needs to wait for the decision of the Superior Electoral Court to formalize the departure. She has advanced negotiations with the Republicans.
Lula appointed three ministers who are affiliated with the União Brasil – Tourism, Communications and Regional Integration – but do not have the fidelity of the acronym in the congressional votes.
The justification given by the party leaders is that Daniela and Juscelino Filho do not serve the interests of the deputies. That’s why the group’s desire is to have Celso Sabino at the Ministry of Tourism. The Minister of Communications remains in office.
