Husband filed a complaint with the police: “My wife confessed to the crime out of sleep”

by time news

A nursing worker who stole nearly $ 10,000 from a helpless woman and spent the money on vacation was caught when her husband heard her mumbling about money in her sleep. Roth Fort, 47, stole £ 7,200 (about 30,000 shekels) from a woman confined to a wheelchair while caring for her in a nursing home.

Her husband Anthony, 61, made the brave decision to report her to the police when he learned of her actions. He reportedly became suspicious of her after spending thousands of dollars during a family vacation in Mexico, but she denied it. Just four weeks later, he woke up to his wife mumbling in her sleep about money and then found in her purse the woman’s credit card from the nursing home.

The father of three told the Mirror: “I had kosher suspicions’ she started wasting too much. It was more instinct at first, but when I found the card in her wallet, I just knew. It broke my heart. I could not keep quiet.” He added: “I loved Roth very much, but I could not ignore what she did. It was disgusting to me that she could steal from a vulnerable person and I had to report her.”

Anthony, a microbiologist by profession, met Roth while studying at the University of Liverpool. They started dating in May 2008 and fell in love with their shared passion for music. They moved to live together in Fleetwood, Lancashire, and were married on New Year’s Eve 2010. Shortly afterwards they moved again, this time to the picturesque village of Lancashire and Ruth began working part-time as a caregiver. Anthony recounted: “One night, in August 2018, I picked Roth up from work and she told me she had taken one of the nursing home tenants for shopping that day. She said the lady, who was in a wheelchair, had £ 98,000 in her bank account. Something in the way she was talking just made my heart sink. I realized that Ruth has access to her card and code. We did not talk about it anymore, but I started to worry, even though I had no reason to. It was an instinct. “

In November 2018, he booked a family vacation to Mexico and his fears arose again after Ruth started spending a great deal of money. Anthony said: “Roth booked a lot of trips and treats on this holiday. She spent so much money. When I questioned her she claimed her relatives gave her a thousand pounds to spend. I was not sure if to believe her. “

In early December 2018, Roth was forced to take time off work due to epilepsy. Shortly afterwards, Anthony woke up and heard Roth mumble in her sleep. He then found her purse on the floor next to her, with four or five £ 20 bills. When he closed the purse, Anthony noticed a debit card that belonged to the nursing home resident she was caring for. The wallet on the floor with some notes falling out. I got up to return them and in her wallet I saw the debit card. So everything connected and I felt nauseous. I did not believe. Kosher woke up, I confronted her, and she admitted everything. I told her to pack her bags and leave. I loved her and yet I knew I had no choice but to report her. “

“I did the right thing and yet I was tried alongside Ruth.”

Later that month, Anthony contacted police and Roth was arrested shortly thereafter. Anthony said: “When the case became public, there was disgust in our village. My family really suffered as a result. I did the right thing and yet I was tried alongside Ruth.”

Roth appeared in Preston Crown Court in February 2021 and pleaded guilty to stealing £ 7,200. After the court heard how she had exploited the injured woman for two months. Ruth was sentenced to 16 months probation, including participation in drug rehab sessions.

The judge praised Anthony for his “commendable” actions and added: “It must have been a very difficult thing to do.” She told Roth, “The temptation here has become greed and you should be ashamed of your behavior.”

The Liverpool Echo reported that Roth appeared in Liverpool court this month after violating the suspended sentence of failing to attend drug rehab sessions twice and also missed a meeting with her probation officer. Roth admitted violating her suspended sentence and the judge agreed to give her one last chance. He imposed a six-week Lily curfew on her and warned her that if she violated the orders or committed other offenses, she would want the actual jail term. Anthony concluded: “My anger has subsided now. I want to help her. I feel like the system has disappointed us so far.”
