A Malaysian woman who fell off a cliff after an argument with her husband survived after a nine-hour struggle.
According to the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) and the Malaysian NGO Murtada Darkwa Centre on the 15th, a Malaysian couple had a heated argument in a car on the 27th of last month. The husband tried to strangle his wife and pulled out a weapon.
The husband pulled over to the side of the road and started a physical altercation with his wife, who ended up pushing her out of the car. She fell 10 meters down a cliff as her two children, aged 6 and 5 months, sat in the back seat.
The wife suffered serious injuries, but managed to climb up the cliff for nine hours and ask passersby for help.
The Murtada Dark and Center said the woman suffered spinal damage, a fractured back and arm. “Her story is heartbreaking. We hope she recovers quickly and becomes stronger,” the center wrote on Facebook, sharing a photo of the woman’s injuries.
According to Malaysian newspaper Berita Harian, the husband already has a criminal record for assaulting his brother. He was detained and police classified the case as attempted murder, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
“I was able to find the strength to save myself because I didn’t want my children to lose their mother,” the woman who survived told local media.
A local netizen said on social media, “The power of a mother’s love is limitless. She fought to save herself for her children, and she is a great mother.” Another local netizen criticized, “This husband tried to kill his wife. He is not worthy of being a father.”
