Jeong Na-eun (Hwasun County Office) and Kim Won-ho (Samsung Life Insurance) won the silver medal by defeating Seo Seung-jae (Samsung Life Insurance) and Chae Yu-jeong (Incheon International Airport) 2-1 in the semifinals of the mixed badminton doubles held at the Porte de la Chapelle Stadium in Paris, France on the 2nd, advancing to the finals.

Jeong Na-eun secured a silver medal by advancing to the finals in her first Olympic appearance, and with just the silver medal, Korean badminton achieved its best result since the 2008 Beijing Games (1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze). In particular, the mixed doubles medal is the first since the gold medal of Lee Yong-dae and Lee Hyo-jeong in the 2008 Beijing Games, and Jeong Na-eun will challenge for the gold medal for the first time in 16 years at 11:10 p.m. on the 2nd.

Meanwhile, Im Ae-ji won the first Olympic medal in Korean women’s boxing history with a 3-2 decision win over Colombia’s Yeni Marcela Arias Castaneda in the quarterfinals of the women’s 54kg class boxing held on the 2nd. It is the first medal in boxing in 12 years. The 54kg semifinals that Im Ae-ji will be competing in will be held on the 4th at 11:34 PM.

Hwasun County and Hwasun County Sports Association plan to hold a cheering event for Jeong Na-eun’s badminton final match at 10:10 PM on the 2nd and for Im Ae-ji’s boxing semifinal match at 10:40 PM on the 4th at Hanium Manyeon Hall.

The cheering event was prepared to unite the citizens as expectations for the athletes to win gold medals are rising, and the event will be broadcast live on a large screen along with a Nanta performance to encourage citizens to cheer on the athletes for winning gold medals.

Hwasun County Governor Koo Bok-gyu said, “I am proud that athletes Jeong Na-eun and Lim Ae-ji have competed as national representatives in the Paris Olympics, and I am very happy that they have also performed well.” He added, “I will cheer on the athletes’ challenge for the gold medal together with the people of Hwasun County.”
