Hwasun Namsan Park has been completed and reborn as a garden in the city. Hwasun County (Governor Gu Bok-gyu) announced on the 30th that it has completed landscaping work on Namsan Park, which has been newly renovated into a space for the citizens encompassing culture, leisure, and relaxation.

The Namsan Park development project is a remodeling project that the county is focusing on to create a space where all residents can relax and heal at any time, regardless of the season or day or night.

Namsan Park, which Hwasun County has been working hard on since January of this year, has been remodeled with an investment of 3 billion won from the Korea Forest Service’s Urban Heat Island Mitigation Project. Tall trees were transplanted around the walking paths and grassy hills to create a cool shade forest with greenery, and thematic spaces were created with a hydrangea garden and water garden representing summer, a grass garden in autumn, and a birch garden in winter.

Hwasun Namsan Park begins with magnolia blossoms in March, followed by western azaleas and forsythia in April and May, poplars and rhododendrons in May and June, and hydrangeas in full bloom in June and July, reaching the peak of the park’s scenery. Then, from September onwards, the park is filled with the fragrance of silver magnolia and eastern magnolia, providing a variety of things to see.

When you enter Namsan Park, the first thing you see is the hydrangea garden. The hydrangea garden, which is about 5,000㎡ in area, is expected to be a spectacular sight with 15 species of about 20,000 plants, including the wood hydrangeas, mountain hydrangeas, and Annabelle hydrangeas, flowing down like waves of hydrangea flowers.

Considering the characteristics of hydrangea, such as the growth environment, flower shape and color, and flowering season, three hydrangea gardens were created with trellises, photo zones, and night lighting installed so that you can enjoy the romance of summer in the picturesque hydrangea gardens that unfold from morning to night.

Additionally, the military plans to develop the area into a tourist attraction that attracts tourists from all over the country, with festival performances taking place during the hydrangeas’ blooming season to revitalize the local commercial district.

After enjoying the romance of summer in the hydrangea garden, you will enter the water garden full of purple and pink buddleia. The water garden, where a sentimental stream flows between the cypress trees, is a newly built facility with a wall fountain and mist fountain so that the citizens can take a cool rest in Namsan Park, which was hot and lacked places to rest.

The cool and refreshing sound of the water garden, the strawberry-scented cinnamon tree, and the sweet scent of the buddleia calling butterflies will likely be the best healing space for those who visit Namsan Park tired of their daily lives.

The grassy hill, a hidden space when viewed from the park entrance, was created so that anyone, regardless of age or gender, who visits the park can enjoy the park to their heart’s content.

The lawn hill measuring approximately 3,800㎡ has large trees such as zelkova, zelkova, and acacia planted around the perimeter to provide shade, and the interior has been designed as an open space so that the outdoor stage can be enjoyed from anywhere.

There are plenty of things to see and enjoy on the green grass hill, such as the wind garden with its cool breeze and swaying grass, the swing chair, the rainbow chair and the view of Hwasun that can be seen from above, and busking on the outdoor stage.

In addition, there is a barefoot walking course connecting the hydrangea garden and the hornbeam grove, a healing picnic area under a grassy hill, a shade garden filled with 15 species of wild strawberry, lily of the valley, and hollyhocks to give the impression of being in a forest, a western azalea path full of people trying to take pictures to remember things, a path of poplar and magnolia flowers, and pink muhly and pampas grass in harmony with autumn foliage, creating charming spaces throughout the park.

Gu Bok-gyu, the governor of Hwasun County, said, “We have developed Namsan Park into a forest where future generations can enjoy nature, looking ahead to the next 100 years,” and added, “We will develop it into a beautiful park representing the entire country and help contribute to the local economy.”

Meanwhile, Namsan Park, which has completed landscaping work, plans to proceed with additional nighttime landscape construction in two stages. Construction is expected to begin in early August, and by November at the latest, Namsan Park will be transformed into a beautiful “light park.”
