One of the virtues of the old Kona was to legitimize Hyundai as one of the manufacturers with the full range of available propulsion systems. Although the autonomy of the electric version and the finishes in the entry-level models were not impressive, zero-emission models began to be seen circulating on the streets of Madrid.
Now that it is replaced by a vehicle that is based on an architecture designed to house electric motors – the previous one was designed for thermal motors – the qualitative leap is evident, so much so that it is one of the contenders for the ABC Award for Car of the Year 2024.
The electric Kona has two propulsion options. The most basic, with 115 kW (156 HP) of power associated with a 48.4 kWh battery, allows it to achieve a range of 377 kilometers. The most powerful version has a 65.4 kWh battery that lasts for 514 kilometers.

The combustion versions, which went on sale in summer, “are being a success, especially the hybrid one,” said the manager. With the electric one, the brand hopes to register around 1,000 units in Spain.

Exceeding these figures depends, to a large extent, on the effect that purchase incentives such as the Moves Plan have. “Unfortunately, they are not working,” said Satrústegui. “Spain is the European country with the most discounts on electricity, with almost 10,000 euros, but customers are not requesting them.”
In the case of the Kona, the manufacturer offers discounts of up to 2,300 euros for financing and for its launch campaign. These, added to the 7,000 for Moves 3, mean that the most basic version can be accessed for “just over 30,000 euros.” The range starts at 40,950 euros without discounts, and goes up to 52,400.
