Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 4th that its ‘Ioniq 5 N’ surpassed the BMW M2 in a high-performance car comparison evaluation by Germany’s Auto Zeitung.

Auto Zeitung’s recent comparative evaluation of high-performance cars evaluated the Ioniq 5 N and BMW M2 in five categories: ▲body ▲driving convenience ▲powertrain ▲dynamic driving performance ▲eco-friendliness and economy.

The Ioniq 5 N scored ahead in all four categories: ▲body ▲driving convenience ▲powertrain ▲eco-friendliness and economy, recording a total score of 2,783 points, beating the M2 (2,694 points) by 89 points.

In terms of dynamic driving performance, the Ioniq 5 N was somewhat inferior to the M2 due to its curb weight, which is about 500 kg heavier than that of the electric vehicle. However, Auto Zeitung evaluated that the Ioniq 5 N demonstrated overwhelming performance despite its curb weight of 2.2 tons.

In particular, the Ioniq 5 N has the power to reach 200 km/h from a standstill in just 11.3 seconds, which is 1.2 seconds faster than the M2.

The Ioniq 5 N boasts a maximum output of 478 kW (650 horsepower, based on boost mode) and a maximum torque of 770 Nm (78.5 kgf m, based on boost mode) of the front and rear motors based on a high-performance all-wheel drive system. It features various high-performance electric vehicle N-exclusive technologies, such as a high-output 84 kWh battery and a high-performance EV-specific thermal management control system.

The Ioniq 5 N was previously named ‘World High-Performance Car of the Year’ at the 2024 World Car Awards prior to this evaluation. It also swept last year’s Top Gear Awards Car of the Year and this year’s Top Gear Electric Awards for Best Electric Hot Hatch.
