Former deputy and provincial minister in “Greater Equator”, Thierry Mbuze Agwabi is once again entering the arena. He is a provincial deputy candidate and national deputy for the Libenge constituency in the South Ubangi province. Historical review. Following the proclamation of the independence of Congo-B, “Grand Ubangi” was described as a region with a purely agricultural vocation (cotton, coffee, cocoa, rubber) and livestock. On an ethnic level, we find the Ngbaka, the Ngbandi and the Mbandja and Ngombe “enclaves”. What are the problems facing the brand new province of South Ubangi: no roads, no electricity, no money in circulation, no company or industry, random telephone network etc… INTERVIEW.

Why are you a deputy candidate at both the provincial and national level?

I must say that the law does not prohibit it. We can do this in the same constituency. This double approach allows the beneficiary party to win several seats. For your information, I am rather targeting the governorate of this region. The governor is elected by the provincial deputies. If I were elected provincial deputy, it is my colleagues who will choose the governor.

“Bosolo na Politik TV” broadcast a report on South Ubangi from Gemena on Thursday November 10 on YouTube. The province only has problems as you can read in this “hat”. How does the deputy candidate react to this dark picture?

It’s a sad picture! Without roads, the economy cannot function. The observation made by this media is real. This is why we are a candidate. It is precisely to plead the cause of the hinterland which seems to be forgotten.

In a previous interview, you spoke to me about prison overcrowding in Makala. According to you, there are people imprisoned since 2003 or 2005 without having been heard by a magistrate. Would you have undertaken any action to raise awareness among the competent authorities?

Most of the detainees have been released. Without trial. This particularly concerns those from Ecuador falsely accused of involvement in alleged plots. The least we can say is that our country’s justice system is full of flaws. This is worrying for rights and freedoms. The head of state did not fail to express his disappointment.

A somewhat disturbing question. You have been a deputy and provincial minister with all the legal troubles you have experienced. What lesson did you learn from this adventure, which could be described as ambiguous?

I was the victim of a private incident which was confused with public affairs. My former supervisor used state resources to resolve a strictly private problem. In fact, I was the victim of an abuse of power. On a private level, I will know how to avoid finding myself in the same situation.

Is it true that the governor candidate and the senator candidate must bribe provincial deputies to be elected?

I have always considered this type of practice to be very misplaced. Elsewhere, promises of jobs and other administrative benefits are made. With us, it’s money that circulates.

Could an elected official who has spent money to win a seat feel bound by an obligation of means or even results?

Unfortunately! Unfortunately! Those who obtained their seat thanks to money, they do not feel indebted at all.

And to close?

I would like to talk about Libenge. This entity which is the only territory in the country with several assets unlike other parts of Congo-Kinshasa. We could cite: an airport and two ports. No need to talk about the potential in natural and other resources. This locality is bordered by the Ubangi river; and straddles two border countries: Congo-Brazzaville, to the south, and the Central African Republic to the north. I cannot end this interview without mentioning the history of a building intended to house a college. This building was built during the time of Marshal Mobutu. It remains unfinished to this day. If I were elected, I would fight for this building to house a university. Several socio-economic activities could arise all around. And bring the city of Libenge to life.
