Rajinikanth aspired to play the role of a villain in the film “Ponniyin Selvan”. For this he met director Mani Ratnam in person and expressed his desire. But Sarathkumar is playing that role. Sarathkumar replied to the question about his experience of playing the role of a farmer:-

“Paluvetaraiyar is a hero with 64 marks. When I read Ponni’s Selvan story, I was expecting who would play the big Paluvetaraiyar role. Thanks to director Mani Ratnam for giving me the opportunity. I don’t know who wanted to play the role. I consider Rajinikanth as proud to play the role.

Question:- Some of the protagonists’ roles are said to be shortened in Ponni’s Selvan?

Answer:- I do not know. Director Mani Ratnam has captured what he has in mind.

Question:-After playing the lead role, you are now playing the roles of brother and father… do you have any regrets about that?

Answer:- Protagonist, villain, father, brother are all characters. Only those who act well in it can be good actors.

Question:- An actress who debuted opposite you is now the number-1 heroine. He is getting salary in crores. Another actress has become a minister in Andhra Pradesh. Another actress has been acting continuously for twenty years. In that way they say you are the protagonist of the zodiac…what do you think about that?

Answer:- I am happy that the actresses who have acted with me have achieved such a great status. It was a success for their efforts.

Answer:- I have already acted in ‘Vanam Kottatum’ under Mani Ratnam banner. Now I feel honored to be acting in his direction, Laika production.
