Calcutta is in turmoil over the incident of RG Kar Medical College. Doctors there are on strike to protest the rape and murder of a female doctor. Comedian and Trinamool MLA Kanchan Mallick got into controversy by commenting on them. Along with the common people, Kanchan’s co-artists also threatened to boycott him. Kanchan apologized in the face of harsh criticism.
Kanchan Mallick shared a video message on his Facebook on Tuesday (September 3). Apologizing for that, the actor said, ‘Yesterday I made some comments on a stage, which was criticized. I am sorry and ashamed of my statement.’
Kanchan’s friend’s mother died due to doctors’ strike. Narrating the incident, Kanchan Mallick said, ‘I also have a sick person at home, who needs medical services to keep him healthy. Besides, we provide services to many others as required. A friend’s mother, the same age as my brother, had a brain haemorrhage and was near death. That friend also approached me for service that day. A friend’s mother could not be saved due to the doctors’ strike.’
Kanchan realized his mistake by feeling it from his heart, not by singing. Referring to this, the actor said, ‘Still, I didn’t want to make any bad comments about doctors and medical services. Everyone is upset because of the situation. On top of that, the incident at RG Kar Medical College has also had an impact. I am also sincerely seeking justice for the victim.’
Earlier last month, a female doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital was raped and murdered. Calcutta has been in turmoil ever since. Along with ordinary people, performers also took to the streets. Kolkata doctors are protesting, going on strike. Throwing a question to the doctors who are on strike, Trinamool MLA Kanchan Mallick said – ‘Will the government take salary and bonus?’ And Kanchan’s co-artists and common people are angry with this.
