When I was called for the film ‘Olam Vum Teeravum’, the first thing that came to me was a feeling like butterflies flying inside me. Even though I said okay, I still did not believe that I am the heroine of this film. Even though they confirmed that they were casting me, I was tense in my mind until I reached the location and started shooting. Because so many films fail after being confirmed, once I have made up my mind for this film, then it will be difficult if the film does not work.
I was confirmed that I am a part of this film when Priyadarshan sir said the first action. When Sir said OK for that scene, I believed that I am going to act in it. Until then, even when my mother asked me, I would say, ‘Mom, don’t you be sure, I still don’t have faith’. Even though the costumer came and took measurements for the dress, I was skeptical. Being the heroine in the films of Priyadarshan sir, Laletan, Santhosh Shivan sir, MT sir was only my wishes and distant dreams. It is a dream come true for me to have all that in one film. I am a beginner in my mind. Achieving all this is something I only hope for in the distant future. Standing in Santosh sir’s frame, Priyan sir’s film and Laleton’s heroine all came together in one film is a great achievement.

No special preparation was done for the character. MT Sir’s Olam and Thiram is a story I know. I know what Nabisa is, but I got to know Nabisa more when she did that role. MT sir comes on set when Priyan sir and I are sitting together. When he came to us, he was an addict who did not know what to fear, admire or respect. We celebrated his birthday on set and got to take a photo with him and give him a cake. That’s my luck as a beginner. At that time I felt like the luckiest woman in the world.

Olam and Thiram is a movie that is going to become history. Story of MT Sir, P.N. Menon’s film was a hit many years ago and it will be brought to the audiences again and that too in black and white. This movie is also a tribute to MT sir. It is also great to be able to act in a black and white film, tomorrow I can say that I have acted in a color film as well as in black and white. I seem to be the only one in the new generation to have this luck.
This was Nabisa’s costume, which used to be the Muslim girl’s ummchi shirt, the body was tied with a tail, the eyes were filled with bottles and a string around the neck. When I looked in the mirror I was intrigued to see a curly-haired, tailed, and squinty-eyed kid. When I saw myself, I liked it very much. Until then, I am Nabisa, and after traveling through her life and speaking her language for several days, I cannot leave Nabisa. Nabisa’s language is creeping into my speech even after so many days of shooting.
I accepted Nabisa as a new character and not as someone else had done it in the past. I saw the character in a very simple way after changing the feeling of being a big movie that is a part of history, so there was no difficulty at all. I enjoyed every day and played it. I ran and swayed on the set without any tension. The size of the character didn’t bother me. There is another reason for that.
It was only when I reached the set and started acting that I realized that I am in this film, the tension that was there till then was gone, from then on I was cool, I was in a different world. Why am I killing my happiness by getting stressed. And Laletan is with me who is very aware of where I stand, Director Priyan sir Camera Santhosh sir, they know how to make their film look good, so I made it easy.

Udal was a very cruel character, but it was Shiney, not Durga, and Durga couldn’t be cruel to a grandmother in real life. Similarly, Durga is not the mother and the one who hugged, but Shinee. The fight scene was done with great difficulty. In those scenes, there were injuries. Not only me, Indrans Ettan and Dhyan got injured. But to my surprise I didn’t see any mention of those scenes anywhere. No one mentioned the fight or other emotional scenes in it. There are only two intimate scenes of Udal doing the rounds on social media. That’s all people see because they only see what they want.
It will still do whatever the character wants
I am an artist and it is my duty to do what my character needs. What you see in the movie is not Durga Krishna but that character. Durga in real life is not Shiny. But people don’t see the difference. They have the impression that Durga is doing everything. I still have to say what I said before, none of those scenes were me and there was a male character, I don’t understand why I am the only one being criticized.
Even when the song from the movie Kuduk was released, people reacted like this. It would be better if those who say that it is right to drag the family into this. I have nothing to say about any of this and those who have to say it will keep saying it and won’t stop. Likewise, I don’t intend to stop my acting. I don’t do films for intimate scenes. If the film needs it, it will do that. If you get a good character, no matter what kind of character it is, you will do hundred percent justice to it. That is my duty as an artist.
