The secret to the longevity of the world’s oldest person, a Catholic nun from Brazil, has become a hot topic.
On the 5th (local time), Longevity Quest, a longevity research group for the elderly, explained on its website that Sister Ina Canavajo is the oldest person in the world.
Sister Canavajo, a soccer fan, is said to have lived 116 years and 211 days as of today.
The Associated Press also cited Ronjeviquest and said, “Sister Canavajo, who is approaching 117 years old, is currently believed to be the oldest person.”
Sister Canavajo was born on June 8, 1908, to a large family in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil. He has been involved in religious activities since his teens and currently lives in a wheelchair at the Mother Teresa convent in Porto Alegre, the central city of Rio Grande do Sul.
He even received congratulations directly from Pope Francis on his 110th birthday.
Also, according to the Associated Press, in a video filmed by Ronjeviquest last February, Sister Canavajo can be seen joking with people and sharing drawings of wildflowers.
Sister Canavajo cited ‘religion’ and ‘positive attitude’ as the secret to longevity. “(I am) young, beautiful and kind, which are all great qualities that you all have,” he said.
In addition, Canavajo is known locally as a passionate soccer fan. SC Internacional, a prestigious Brazilian professional soccer team based in Porto Alegre, celebrates Canavajo’s birthday every year by giving the oldest supporter a uniform as a birthday present.
Meanwhile, Sister Canavajo was recorded as the second-oldest nun in history. French Sister André (real name Lucille Landon), previously known as the world’s oldest nun, died at the age of 118 in 2023.
