“From what I hear, of course the anti-Semitic theme is important and really intolerable. I hope that the chairman of the party and the party itself will nevertheless find some harmony and try to find answers to those questions. Unfortunately, today we see that the statements are of great concern,” the president said in an interview with “Zinių radio”.

Speaking about the “Dawn of the Nemunas”, the president noted that he hopes that the political force led by R. Žemaitaitis will be able to answer all the questions regarding their stance in foreign policy.

“I believe that this party is, after all, a party oriented towards the West, and I really hope that during these remaining weeks it will be able to highlight those things that are important to every Lithuanian voter: pro-Western orientation and removing any doubts that this party can reflect in one way or another interests of the East or the Kremlin. If there were even the slightest doubts about this, I would certainly be the person who would say that it is impossible to vote for such a party,” said G. Nausėda.

The party “Nemunas Aušra” led by R. Žemaitaitis has recently been often mentioned as one of the likely members of the new ruling majority. Such speeches were reinforced by Vilija Blinkevičiūtė, the chairwoman of the Social Democrats, who are considered favorites in the Seimas elections, hinting that she would not rule out the possibility of forming a ruling coalition with Nemunas Aušra.

Such a statement of the social democrat was publicly criticized, emphasizing that the leader of the “Nemunas aushra” party, R. Žemaitaitis, was found by the Constitutional Court to have broken the oath of a member of the Seimas and grossly violated the Constitution due to anti-Semitic statements. After such a verdict of the CT, the politician himself refused the mandate of a member of the Seimas.

Responding to V. Blinkevičiūtė’s speech, Speaker of the Seimas and head of the Liberal movement, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, stated that she would not see her political strength in a coalition with “Nemunas Aušra”, while Conservative leader Gabrielius Landsbergis called on parties on the left and right of the center to negotiate and thus prevent way to bring radical forces to power.
