Bangladesh Film Censor Board has been restructured. On Sunday (September 15), the information and broadcasting ministry announced the names of the 15-member censor board members.
Producer Ashfaq Nipun is one of the 15 members of the Censor Board. After the announcement was made public, the practice of newly formed members started on social media. Many in the showbiz arena are criticizing Ashfaq Nipun by ‘punching’. Their comment – ‘He (Ashfaq Nipun) was not in favor of this censor board. But he became a member of that board.’
In this situation, director Ashfaq Nipun clarified his position on the matter. In a post given on Facebook, this producer known as ‘Mahanagar’ said, ‘Censor Board will be converted into Censor Certification Board within the next few months, I was told by the Ministry of Information. I am against Censor Board system in films or industry for life.’
Ashfaq Nipun has not officially accepted the membership of the Censor Board. This builder said, ‘I felt very honored that the ministry considered me worthy to be a member of the board. But there has been a mis-communication. I have not accepted the official membership of this board. I returned it politely. I have spoken to the Ministry of Information in this regard.’
Ashfaq Nipun said about his position against the Censor Board, “My position will always be in favor of canceling the Censor Board.” I wish the remaining members of the newly formed Censor Board, who are my colleagues, to cancel their Censor Boards and quickly introduce a Censor Certification Board or Grading System.’
According to the notification of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the responsibility of the Chairman of the Censor Board will be held by the Senior Secretary/Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Film Censor Board will be the member secretary.
Ex-officio member – President of Bangladesh Film Directors Association. Apart from this, the list of members includes filmmaker Zakir Hossain Raju, director Ashfaq Nipun, director Khizir Hayat Khan, director Tasmia Afrin Mou, director Rafiqul Anwar Russell and actress Kazi Nowshaba Ahmed.
The list of members also includes Senior Secretary/Secretary of Law and Justice Department, Press Secretary of Chief Adviser’s Office, Additional Secretary (Films) of Information and Broadcasting Ministry, a representative of Public Security Department, Managing Director of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation and writer Mohammad Nazim Uddin.
