Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Chechnya produced a curious moment that has been widely shared on social media. Footage from the shooting range shows Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov’s son firing at targets with an automatic weapon and a pistol. He didn’t put them classically on his head, but over his chin. “Why did he (Putin) put his headphones on like that? I didn’t even recognize him at first. To have a beard like Kadyrov?” asked the influential Ukrainian ex-politician Anton Herashchenko on the X social network.

The video also caused amused reactions due to the dubious performance of Kadyrov’s son. Sixteen-year-old Adam is not particularly successful at shooting down close targets, and reloading takes a relatively long time. Nevertheless, a satisfied expression can be seen on the faces of Putin and his father.
Adam Kadyrov also caught the attention of the world’s media last fall, when a video emerged of him beating a prisoner accused of burning a Koran. His father subsequently praised him publicly. “He beat him up and did the right thing,” Kadyrov said. “Without exaggeration, yes, I am proud of Adam’s act,” he added, adding that he appreciates his son for adopting “adult ideals of honor, dignity and defense of his religion.”
