Robin Gosens has left Union Berlin and is happy about his return to Italy. Now he spoke about the reasons for his departure from the Bundesliga.

The farewell was turbulent, the debut successful – Robin Gosens is accordingly motivated as he begins his next Italian adventure with AC Florence. “I wanted to return to Italy, I didn’t feel as at home in Germany as I do here,” said the 20-time national football player at his presentation in Florence on Wednesday, according to Sky Italia. Gosens had already celebrated his debut on the pitch on September 1st – and secured a 2:2 (1:2) draw for Fiorentina against AC Monza with a late goal.

Gosens moved from Union Berlin to Italy shortly before the end of the transfer window, but the transfer took a long time. The 30-year-old was still in the Bundesliga club’s squad for the match against FC St. Pauli on August 30th and was supposed to play from the start – then an agreement was reached and Gosens’ move to Florence was completed that same evening.

“Fiorentina means a lot to me, it’s a new phase that I wanted. The desire to return and come to Florence was very big,” said Gosens. He is very grateful to the club for this opportunity.

Gosens had already played in Italy from 2017 to 2023, initially for four and a half years for Atalanta Bergamo before being signed by Inter Milan for around 27 million euros in 2022. This was followed by a move to Berlin, but Gosens was rarely able to impress there.

“Atalanta’s coach Gian Piero Gasperini is a genius, he has made me improve every day. I expect the same from coach Raffaele Palladino,” said Gosens: “We spoke a lot on the phone before I arrived. I like his ideas. All the conditions are there to be the same player I was at Atalanta. I work every day to be at the top in every game. My goal is to improve day by day.”
