I don’t know if it’s a smart idea 100% for the state to fund the universities, it seems like an afterthought.
This was stated by the Dean of the Faculty of Law of the SU “St. Kliment Ohridski” Daniel Valchev in the program “This Morning” on bTV.
SU is likely to come out with its position on free tuition, he said.
According to him, Nikolay Denkov’s proposal creates several problems – during the budget procedure, no one raised this topic. This gives the impression that it is an afterthought. Denkov did not raise the issue even while he was Minister of Education.
The state will have to compensate public higher education institutions. In addition, they form their budget from these fees as well – this is their only source outside the state. I don’t know if it is a smart idea 100% for the state to finance universities.
In his words, scholarships are a good option for students to be stimulated and a well-thought-out state policy should be considered.
According to him, a modern system for children who do not have the opportunity for higher education should be supported.
I don’t think fees are the big problem for higher education in our country, he added.
