What do you eat for breakfast?
A piece of brioche and I drink Earl Gray without milk – and apple juice.
Where do you buy your clothes?
Since I need a very large size, it’s not that easy. I often can’t find what I like in stores. I usually discover my clothes by accident somewhere in the countryside. I particularly like Dries Van Noten’s stuff. Unfortunately, it’s hard for me to find vintage clothes.
What is the oldest item of clothing in your closet?
I still have shirts from the 70s in bright colors like pink and orange, with stripes and polka dots. I love the colors!
When was the last time you wrote a letter by hand?
Ugh! I don’t remember exactly. No, I don’t remember at all. It’s been too long.
What book has had the greatest impact on you in your life?
I recently enthusiastically read several biographies about Karl Lagerfeld, whom I knew well. I was very impressed by “Paradise Now. The Extraordinary Life of Karl Lagerfeld by William Middleton.
How do you stay informed about world events?
I’m not particularly interested in the present. I am fascinated by the past. I don’t participate in the Internet. I don’t listen to the radio. But sometimes I watch the news on TV.
What’s your best topic for small talk?
Small talk to break the ice? I’ll break the ice quickly. If I don’t know people, I introduce myself and then often talk about my work. This is a good topic. I know what I’m talking about.
What was the last movie that made you cry?
In “New Olympus” by Ferzan Özpetek, which I saw on Netflix. It is the love story of two men who meet in the cinema of the same name in Rome.

With my car. This is because my two pugs Otto and Nettuno always have to come with me. The two like driving cars. Little Otto is an emperor, great Neptune is a god.

Judging an item of clothing. It’s a skill you either have or don’t have. I have my mother’s sensitivity and eye. She could do it too, even if she wasn’t an expert. With time and experience my talent has increased.

Eat. Luckily. Otherwise life won’t be fun. I love the chocolate from the Parisian manufacturer Debauve & Gallais, I always carry it with me. I like both dark chocolate and whole milk varieties.
Which historical figure would you like to meet?
Certainly not Napoleon, I hate him! I would like to meet Cristóbal Balenciaga.
Do you wear jewelry? And a watch?
I change my watches and wear Chanel or Hublot models. And I wear Cartier love bracelets.
Do you have a favorite perfume?
I’ve been using Caron’s Pour un Homme perfume since I was 15 or 16. I’ve never changed it. I am a man faithful to his perfume.
What was your best vacation experience?
It was on the beach near La Baule, Brittany, when I was six or seven years old with my brothers. We floated small sailboats on the sea, as children still do in the swimming pool of the Luxembourg Garden in Paris.

I listened to the soprano Natalie Dessay at the Saint-Rémy-de-Provence festival, she sang the great classics of Michel Legrand;
What are you missing for happiness?
Dead friends.
What do you drink for dinner?
Red or rosé wine. It depends on the season. I like to drink the organic wines of Domaine des Terres Blanches in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, where I live. Obviously I mostly drink French wines.
