“It’s incompatible with my age and the path I’ve taken,” Banki said. “At the moment, the Italian national team has a very good coach and a new generation of players who are getting better and better. In addition, I still have one year left on my contract with the Latvian national team and we will play at home in the European Championship.”

Banki took charge of the Latvian national team in March 2021, and under his leadership, the national team was able to qualify for last year’s World Cup, where they won fifth place.
The 2025 European Basketball Championship will take place from August 27 to September 14 in Cyprus, Finland, Poland and Latvia, with each of the host countries hosting one subgroup match. The elimination matches and fights for medals will be held in Riga.
