“It is not because there was such a heinous event in this historic stadium that we are going to proceed with the renaming of this stadium in connection with this event (…) The renaming of the September 28 stadium as the martyrs’ stadium. I do not believe that this is necessary because the date of September 28 is a symbolic date in this country. Almamy Samory Touré was arrested on September 29. Guinean independence was proclaimed on September 28. This date is a landmark for the people of Guinea. I think that this symbolic date in our country must remain there,” declared the head of the Ministry of Justice.
