Jasmine Carrisi’s dream is ”a dream come true”: in fact, in October the first album of the daughter of Al Bano and Loredana Lecciso arrives, who has long since decided to follow her father’s path: ”On the one hand, dad it certainly helped me because it gave me visibility – Jasmine admits in an interview with time.news – on the other hand it made it more difficult for me to create my own identity. I’d like to be known for who I am, not just as a daughter of Al Bano”. Jasmine’s passion for music was born following her father ”around the concerts – explains the 22-year-old – I followed him together with my brother, he took us very often with him”. Another great source of inspiration for Jasmine were some foreign pop stars such as Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande who are, she explains, ”closer to the kind of music I love”. Determined to be a singer, the daughter of Al Bano and Lecciso, who also made her debut as an actress in the historic American soap opera ‘Beautiful’ where she played the role of a model in a ‘Forrester Creation’ fashion show organized in Rome, adds: “I don’t exclude anything in life, I had a lot of fun on the set but being an actress is not my calling: I want to sing”. And she thinks big: “My dream is to go to Sanremo, get on that stage where Dad has also climbed it many times and to which all Italian singers aspire”.
In an interview recently given to time.news, Al Bano had reiterated that he suffered from ”acute sanremite” revealing that he wanted to return as a singer in the competition on the Ariston stage: ”I’m rooting for him – says Jasmine – I’d like to see him again in Sanremo”. Jasmine Carrisi debuts as a singer in 2019 with her first single ‘Ego’, then comes ‘Calamite’, ‘Nessuno mai’ in a duet with her father Al Bano and featuring Clementino and finally ‘Amoremalinconia’, the latter criticized by many followers of the young singer due to the video that portrays her as she rips open the chest of a giant bear with a knife: ”I don’t see what’s scandalous about it, the video tells of a girl who, due to a disappointment in love, to let off steam, he takes a soft toy and stabs it to vent all his anger”. When was the first time your father found out you could sing? “It was 2013 – he says – I had recorded an album of covers in English while I was doing piano lessons and I played it to dad who was pleasantly surprised because he didn’t know that I sang and spoke in English. I am a very introverted person and before it takes me a while to realize a project and reveal it One of these covers was included in one of his albums (by Al Bano, ed) but the song didn’t reflect what my musical profile is, so I decided to record a single that was closer to my pop nature”.
Did Al Bano support you in his choice to become a singer? “Yes – replies the daughter – even if at the beginning both he and my mother (Loredana Lecciso, ed) rightly urged me to finish my studies”. And on the relationship with her parents Jasmine continues: “I am attached to both but in a different way: I like dad’s mentality based on ‘problem – solving’, his humility and his acceptance towards everyone, I like mom’s culture, she is a woman who has studied a lot, and her attention and precision in doing things”. Jasmine, very active on social media, with over 217,000 followers on TikTok, recently decided to ‘clean up’ her Instagram profile, visited by over 118,000 followers, ”to bring it closer to my image as an artist who makes music rather than to that of an influencer”, he explains. Always at the center of gossip because of her ‘extended’ family (Al Bano had two children with Loredana and four with Romina Power) Jasmine admits: ”The gossip about my family bothered me a bit but I understand that media also affects my parents’ private life and I’m used to it by now”. What is your relationship with Romina’s children? “I have a different relationship with each brother – he reveals – having different ages and living in different cities we are not all in constant contact but we love each other”. And with Romina? “I have no relationship with her, it is normal, after all she is my father’s ex-wife. We just say goodbye,” concludes Jasmine.
