German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Barcelona’s goalkeeper, commented on Barcelona’s (1-2) defeat to Monaco last night, Thursday, in the first round of the Champions League.

Ter Stegen said, in statements reported by the Spanish newspaper “AS”: “We did not understand each other well in the case in which Eric Garcia was sent off, and I feel bad for him, and we played about 80 minutes with a numerical disadvantage.”

Ter Stegen made a huge mistake by trying to pass the ball to Garcia, who was under the supervision of Takumi Minamino, and the Japanese player pounced on the ball before Eric, forcing the latter to obstruct him, instead of running with the ball alone with the Barça goalkeeper.

Barcelona’s goalkeeper added: “We did not understand each other and something happened that should not have happened to any of us. This is one of the things that happen in football. We feel pain because we played with an honorable performance despite the numerical shortage.”

“We didn’t control the game completely, but we played honorably. In the end we lost, and the second goal, which didn’t have much play, and the loss was somewhat undeserved. We feel bad for not getting any points,” he continued.

“We knew they would increase the pressure. We wanted to close the spaces and we succeeded to a certain extent. But you always have to win and that is the goal. We will try to win the next match at home,” he explained.
