Complicated weekend for Joan Mir at the Spanish Grand Prix where he had to retire after crashing in the Sprint Race. The Spanish rider has stated that he has been able to verify the real problems with his bike, something that has made him make riding mistakes on every lap.

At the end of the sprint race, Joan Mir spoke to the press and admitted that the high temperatures he has experienced in Jerez have allowed him to really understand the problems he has with the RC213V that have caused him great distrust: “When it’s so hot, all the problems get worse and then you see where you’re missing. Fhigh a lot in cornering, in acceleration. I suffer a lot there. I brake hard and I can recover a lot of time, but one lap, two, three, four, five or six goes well for me, but not twenty or twelve and I end up making a mistake. This for confidence is fatal. I have a beastly lack of confidence. Sometimes it is difficult to have the same confidence and motivation as always”.

The 2020 world champion is clear about it and at the moment he cannot regain his confidence until he has all the necessary information to get on the bike: “This situation does not help to recover anything or to feel good. Now play this and We have come out of very difficult situations, so we have to get out of this anyway. You have to take this right now as a training to gather information. And then see what they bring in the test to see what can be improved, because that’s how you play it”.

“The races continue and the bike is the same”commented Mir, lamenting the little evolution that Honda has had, assuring that the brand does not offer solutions to its problems: “TThe whole world evolves and we continue without improving. A race can touch the temperature or the circuit and do well in a good race, training session or qualifying, but then reality returns. It’s not an easy situation.”

Marc Márquez’s partner has confirmed his frustration, assuring that “What moves me to give 100% and take risks is being able to win, that feeling you get when you’ve done well. Results move me more than passion”. In this sense, the high level of stress and work in the World Cup has meant that “I haven’t enjoyed it for a long time”so he prefers to remain calm and “keep pushing and see what they bring on Monday that makes things a little easier for us, to create moments that help me improve confidence. I know it’s a long period and confidence is gained little by little, and now it’s down.”

“It flows and is going well, but we have not just had improvements”, Joan Mir has assured regarding his relationship with the Repsol Honda Team, stressing that they still have a long road ahead in which they will have to find solutions: “We have tried quite a few things in Sepang, but nothing has worked. I am giving 100% and I am testing. The bike is the same or very similar to the one in Valencia. We are at the beginning. I try myself and I fall. This is what it is and it is not about them squeezing me or me squeezing them. If they bring things I will also improve. Everything is related”.

Finally, the Spaniard prefers to remain calm and affirms that the new weekend program does not allow him enough time to improve his sensations on the bike. Now, he hopes that the test day in Jerez will allow him to take the necessary step forward: “It’s a glimmer of hope, because With this format you don’t have time to do anything. P1 was qualifying and this is outrageous for someone who needs a period of improvement on the bike and to continue growing. In P1 you should try and see the things that the team has done, not to make a time attack, and now it’s more like that. You can’t prove anything.”Joan Mir concluded.
