I have a car of 300,000 euros. This is how hard it is for me to keep it

On one side are those of us who watch with concern how car prices have skyrocketed in recent years, praying that our engine will last a long time and avoid a painful change. On the other side are those who have concerns of another kind: Should I stick with black in my next sports car, or would it be acceptable to go with yellow?

In the group of the latter is Enrique Morisa Sevillian entrepreneur and investor who has in his possession a Lamborghini Urus, the SUV of the bull brand, and has seen fit tell us about your maintenance costsfrom the cost of insurance to changing tires.

And while it’s not cheap, it’s not as expensive as one might think either. Or like what it costs to maintain a Bugatti.

We started talking for 6,000 euros a year

First is insurance. Enrique has provided us with a copy of his policy: 3,014.45 euros costs the all-risk insurance. If he had settled for third-party insurance, he would have stayed at around 1,000 euros, as he explains.

The reason why it is not proportionally so high if we compare it with the prices of traditional car insurance has to do with implicit factors of a car, so they are reflected in the policy: 24-hour garage and few kilometers per year (up to 10,000).

General annual maintenance costs “about 3,000 euros”, with a very similar price whether it is done at the official house or in an independent workshop, according to Enrique. Although the price can go down if it is done in a lower category workshop, up to approximately 1,000 euros.

The change of tires has meant about 300 euros per wheel, although that amount can be increased if a more expensive model is chosen. They can reach 500 euros per wheel.

At the time of purchase, the manufacturer offers a towing service to bring the car to the owner’s house. In the case of Enrique, who lives in Andorra and was waiting for the car from Madrid, this service cost him 1,000 euros.

Mistakes with this car are expensive. A new key for the Lamborghini Urus, in case of loss, costs 500 euros. A price higher than that of passenger cars, but not so higher: for controls that require coding, and not simple traditional keys, it is difficult to find prices below 200 euros.

And a document called COC (the Certificate of conformity), necessary to register a car outside his country of origin, something that Enrique needed, costs 2,300 euros in case of lossa price much higher than that faced by traditional passenger cars.

Upon moving to Andorra, this owner faced a price of an additional 3,000 euros to be able to have a personalized license plate, although this is a matter for the Andorran government, not the manufacturer.

Yes it has to do directly with the car the cost of fuel. The actual average consumption that Enrique is accustomed to is about 25 liters per 100 kilometers on city trips, and about 20 on interurban routes. “But that depends on the speed at which you go, of course; if you run more you can reach 30 and 40 liters of consumption.” Its combined WLTP consumption is barely 14 liters… but if they tend to move away in theory from practice, with a car like this, even more.

For a moderate mileage (although not that moderate for such a car) of about 10,000 kilometers per year, assuming 50-50 mixed use, we can do the following: consumption estimates.

Gasoline 98: 1.9 euros / liter. 5,000 urban kilometers: 1,250 liters of gasoline. 5,000 interurban kilometers: 1,000 liters of gasoline. 2,250 liters of gasoline: 4.275 euros.

They are approximations, but to give us an idea, 10,000 kilometers of mixed use with a Urus would cost just over 4,000 euros, of course assuming not too fast driving.

Summing up and rounding:

Annual insurance: 3,000 euros. Annual maintenance: 3,000 euros. Key loss: 500 euros. COC loss: 2,300 euros. Fuel (10,000 km per year): 4,300 euros. Tire change: 1,200 euros.

That is, a minimum of 6,000 euros per year, without counting tire changes, fuel or other expenses. Whoever has them put them up.
