“I have a conversation with foreign investors, and they have a hard time understanding what’s going on here”

by time news

This week in episode 231 of Calcalist’s Money Engines podcast, with Psagot economist and chief strategist Uri Greenfeld:

“I have a conversation with investors outside the borders of the country and I have not come across any specific questions about the reforms they want to make here – but questions from investors who don’t really understand what is going on here,” said the CEO of the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, Itai Ben Ze’ev, today (Thursday) in a conversation In Calcalist’s money engines podcast.

Ben Ze’ev addressed the question of whether he is worried about the situation and said that “when you live in Israel you should always be worried. The State of Israel is a country that concentrates interest on the part of investors – and the best way, in my opinion, is to invest in public companies.”

Ben Ze’ev criticized the Israeli high-tech companies that do not want to be traded in Tel Aviv despite the good conditions he claims they can get on our local stock exchange: “We have private high-tech companies that dream of trading in New York, but these companies do not want to come to Israel. And I ask them – if any You care so much about the country, why not give the Israeli investor the opportunity to trade in your stock? Why not let the Israelis’ pensions invest in your company? Many foreign investors ask me why the Israeli companies are not also traded in Tel Aviv and I have nothing to answer them.”

Ben Zeev was a guest in the second part of episode number 231 of Calcalist’s Money Engines podcast with the economist and chief strategist of Psagot Uri Greenfeld and also talked about the move he is currently leading to separate the array of investment advisors from the banks.

In the first part of the episode we talked about the discourse surrounding the government’s planned legal reforms. What and whether there will be an effect on Israel’s debt rating, what it actually means that companies announce that they are withdrawing the money from Israel and why we saw a reaction of the bonds on the stock exchange.

In the third part we had the regular corners of going to the market and the crazy thing.

Pleasant listening!
