I didn’t have any negative feelings towards my daughter nor did I want to hurt her, but I didn’t want to be with her. My whole life was dominated by gray and I only knew I was deeply depressed, I did not know where alcoholism ended and post partum depression began “, admitted Panettiere, revealing that she had never drank during pregnancy, but had recovered. immediately after, clinging to the bottle as if it were his only lifeline.
“I got chills when I woke up and could only function if I drank, I was in a self-destructive cycle.” After “Nashville” in 2018, the actress made the most difficult and heartbreaking decision of all: to send Kaya to live with her father in Ukraine (now the child is no longer there, but in a safe place, while her father and his brother Vitali, mayor of Kiev, are fighting on the front line to repel the invasion of Russia). “It was the hardest thing she ever had to do, but I wanted to be a good mom to her and sometimes that means letting them go.” But the alcohol problem was out of control, so much so that she ended up in the hospital. “The doctors told me that my liver was failing and that I was no longer twenty, I would not recover.”
From there, the decision to enter rehab for eight months and stay in the clinic provided her with the tools to overcome her addiction, even if inner peace was a more recent achievement. «Now I’m fine and I’m happy to say that I’m sober – concluded Panettiere, who will reprise the role of Kirby Reed in the sixth“ Scream ”- but it’s a daily battle, it really is.
