President Yoon Seok-yeol’s side hinted that he would not comply with the third request for attendance by the High-ranking Public Officials Crime Investigation Office (Corruption Investigation Office) scheduled for the 29th.
Attorney Gap-Geun Yoon, who is in charge of public affairs for President Yoon’s impeachment trial team and the defense team responding to the investigation, said in a phone call with Newsis on the 28th, “I have never received a legitimate appearance request.”
In fact, it is interpreted as meaning that he will not respond to the Corruption Investigation Office’s third request for attendance.
Attorney Yoon also said, “The Corruption Investigation Office does not have the authority to investigate treason crimes,” and “Can you go there just because you are called from a place where you do not have the authority to investigate?”
According to the Corruption Investigation Office Act, insurrection is not included in the crimes subject to direct investigation by the Corruption Investigation Office.
However, the Corruption Investigation Office determined that President Yoon’s charges of rebellion amounted to a crime related to abuse of power and therefore had the authority to investigate.
Regarding the prediction that the Corruption Investigation Office would seek an arrest warrant if President Yoon does not respond to the third request for attendance, he remained silent, saying, “I will go and talk about it then.”
Previously, on the 26th, the Corruption Investigation Office notified President Yoon of a request to appear at the Gwacheon Government Complex Corruption Investigation Office by 10 a.m. on the 29th.
The Corruption Investigation Office had previously notified him of the first summons, saying, “Be investigated by the 18th,” but President Yoon’s side did not comply. He then requested his appearance again, saying, ‘Be investigated by 10 a.m. on the 25th,’ but the president did not respond to the second summons notice.
Meanwhile, Attorney Yoon said that the Prosecutor’s Emergency Martial Law Special Investigation Headquarters (Director Park Se-hyeon, Chief of the Seoul High Prosecutors’ Office) announced the arrest and indictment of former Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun and the results of the investigation, and mentioned in detail President Yoon’s martial law plot and instructions on that day, saying, “Kim I have the same thoughts as the former minister. “We have no plans to announce a separate statement,” he said.
Former Minister Kim’s side objected to the indictment and stated, “The report is a fiction made up of the indictment as if it were a compilation of the Democratic Party’s guidelines, including content that was not included in the newspaper.”
