While Red Star was heading straight towards their sixth defeat in 9 days against Caen, the versatile left back Riyad Hachem played the revolt in the 65th minute, reducing the score midway through the second half thanks to a personal exploit. The versatile left-back scored a fantastic goal, blindly, controlling the ball with his chest before launching it with the outside of his left foot into the top corner of Mandrea’s posts. Durand then equalized late in the match. Even if Red Star slips into the play-off place for the first time (16th), we will remember from this evening the splendid sequence of Ryad Hachem who worthily celebrated his first goal at the Bauer Stadium.
Did you think about the Puskas Trophy this morning (which rewards the best goal of the season)?
RYAD HACHEM. Not! (laughs) There will be other goals better than this but, frankly, tonight I scored a very beautiful goal. I am happy. The most important thing is what this lens conveys.
Can you tell us about it?
It’s a DD7 ball (Damien Durand) with whom I created a certain affinity that is reflected on the field. I like to mix with him. He knows how to find me on the ground. During the goal action he puts this ball on my chest. I try to orient myself and I do it by feeling. I tell myself that by turning around I will try to throw it in the opposite direction and I see it coming very slowly. I haven’t seen the goal yet, I’ll go and watch it again. It’s an instinctive goal. I don’t score often so it’s even more fun. I scored my second goal for Red Star since my arrival (3 years ago) and it’s my first at Bauer. I get a lot of pleasure! This is my department’s club (was born in Livry-Gargan in Seine-Saint-Denis). And then my brother Abdelsamad (who plays for Paris 13 Atlético) he was in the stands.
This goal revitalized your team…
Caen’s second goal gives us a headache. We tell ourselves that we must not give up. Those who give up are no longer with us. We did what we had to do to get back into this game. Today it is everyone’s effort. It’s a draw for the entire group.
In the standings, for the first time this season, you slip into the play-off position (16th)…
For me this draw feels like a victory because we had a lot of character to react. Then, obviously, before the start of the match we had the goal of winning in front of our fans. We had a great second half. We conceded a goal during the game, we managed to fight back and we could have even scored the third if we had benefited from a little more time. But we don’t want to be greedy, we get what we deserve, I think. We will start from this point for the rest.
