Miguel Angel González Suárez, former Real Madrid goalkeeper (1974-1986), who publicly announced on December 17 that he suffers from ALS, declared this Monday that he knows what he has and the path he has to take.

“Well, reality first. I know what I have, I know the path to follow and that is what guides me and gives me strength. When I lose that strength, I rely on the love of my family and my friends,” said the legendary ex-goalkeeper for the white team, 75, at the Luis de Carlos Forum of the Real Madrid Foundation.

“Guys with whom I have worked, people with whom I have worked that I wanted to show them how it could be improved, well I am now receiving the expressions of affection from them with calls, with presence, they come home, they are with me, that is the prize that I receive for having been involved with them when I was training”, he added.

“It is very difficult to stick with just one thing after being in an entity from the age of 20 until I retired. Arriving at Real Madrid was extraordinary for me and having finished my career as a worker is also extraordinary”, he pointed out.

Pirri and Butragueño

Emilio Butragueño, former striker and current director of institutional relations for the club, recalled his earliest moments to honor his friend “El Gato”, the nickname by which Miguel Angel was known.

“I saw both Pirri and Miguel Ángel when I was very little, I saw them from my seat in the second amphitheater and then I was lucky to have the Gato as a partner and when we talk about Real Madrid, we always go to values and the Gato He taught us those values, including one that is the desire to excel. Once again, Gato, you teach us a lesson and show us the path of how to face the day to day”, explained the “Vulture”.
