Kozhikode: Despite winning the last match, Gokula’s dream of a third consecutive title fell short. Defending champions Gokulam Kerala FC had to settle for third place after beating Srinidhi Deccan by a one-sided goal in the last match at home on a day that ended the season with a Round Glass Punjab win that already sealed the I-League title.
Round Glass won the I League with 52 points from 22 matches with 16 wins, five draws and two losses. With 13 wins, three draws and six losses in 22 matches, Srinidhi finished second with 42 points. Gokulam has reached the third position with 39 points from 22 matches with 12 wins, three draws and seven losses. Round Glass beat Trau FC in Gurgaon to increase their lead to 10 points.
In the 49th minute of the final match held at the Kozhikode Corporation Stadium, Gokulam was defeated by the only goal scored by Spanish player Sergio Mendiguccia Iglesias from the penalty. The penalty was a missed opportunity for Gokulam, who led by two after a goalless first half.
